Why Measuring Your Feet Matters for Barefoot Shoes

Why It's Worth Measuring Your Feet Before You Order

Ever grabbed your "usual size" in a new shoe brand, only to find it doesn't quite fit right? You're not alone — and it's not you, it's sizing!

Sizes Aren't as Standard as You'd Think

There's no single rulebook that all shoe brands follow. Every brand sets its own sizing, and even within the same brand, one style might fit differently than another. So a size that's perfect in one pair isn't guaranteed to be perfect in the next.

Barefoot shoes take a bit of a different approach. Instead of just slapping a number on the box, they're designed around your actual foot — length, width, and volume — so your toes have room to move naturally.

You Might Not Be "One Size" Across the Board

It's totally normal to wear different sizes in different pairs, even from the same brand! A soft, flexible sandal might fit true to size, while a sturdier boot or sneaker might feel best a size up. Materials, thickness, and design all make a difference.

That's why sticking to just one "usual size" can sometimes mean ending up with shoes that pinch, feel loose, or fit in length but not in shape.

A Few Things That Affect Fit

  • Length – can vary from model to model
  • Width – some styles suit narrower feet, others wider feet
  • Volume – how high or low your instep is
  • Toe box shape – every style is a little different

How to Measure Your Feet (It's Quick, We Promise!)

  1. Measure both feet — they're often slightly different sizes!
  2. Stand on a piece of paper and mark your longest toe to get your length.
  3. Measure across the widest part of your foot for width.
  4. Take note of your instep height for volume.
  5. Compare your measurements to our size chart rather than guessing based on your usual size.

And keep in mind — sandals, sneakers, boots, and flats can all feel a little different, even at the same size!

Trust Your Measurements, Not Just the Number

If your measurements point to a size that feels bigger than expected, don't worry — that's completely normal! It doesn't mean anything about your feet; it just means that's the size that'll actually feel great to wear.

Your usual size is a great starting point, but measuring is the best way to make sure you get it right the first time.
